Opening Address by City of Melbourne
City of Melbourne lighting aims to enhance people’s experience of the city after dark, while ensuring responsible energy use. It promotes improvements to safety and amenity, especially for pedestrians. In doing so, it also recognises that people’s sense of wellbeing results from a complex mix of factors. At night, these include way-finding and visual comfort, as well as road safety and personal security.

Investigating electricity distribution network benefits of smart lighting technology
SA Power Networks’ Smart Lighting / Smart Network Pilot is investigating the extent to which smart streetlights deployed for local council lighting projects can also provide useful data, e.g. on voltage levels, that can assist with managing the electricity distribution network. This presentation will cover: the service specification, how and why we developed it as we did; some interesting aspects of the procurement process; a description of the smart lighting /smart network pilots and our engagement with relevant councils; our experiences to date; and our consequent view to the future, including options to leverage broader smart city technologies and to explore the basis for commercial arrangements with customers.

Manager Commercial Corporate Strategy, SA Power Networks
PANEL DISCUSSION
Lowering the Costs of Street Lighting: Who You Gonna Call?
What have been the most effective actions to lower the costs of street lighting? Why are some councils saving millions every year and others costs keep escalating?
Who do you call and when? AER, AEMO, AEMC, Ghostbusters, NER, COAG?
Are you confused when it comes to the role of the leading regulators and market operators in Australia’s energy market? How do they directly impact the cost of street lighting and how can they help customers?
From councils starting their smart lighting journey to those who have been around for decades, it is common for hours wasted seeking “lighting approval information from AER”, “an understanding of the latest technology from AEMO” or “an update from AEMC on the latest in Type 8 metering and dimming”. All of course are questions asked to the wrong organisation.....
This interactive panel will answer your questions and profile what works and who is savings the most money in street lighting and why.
Facilitated by Paul Brown, Australia’s most experienced lighting expert who has worked with councils and national regulators and operators for decades.

The Evolution of Lighting
Solid state lighting has ushered in a revolution in the industry. In the space of a few short years lighting has undergone a transformation unheralded since electric light was invented. Bryan’s presentation will examine the implications of this transformation from a Global Lighting Association perspective and present some thoughts on lighting of the future.

Bluetooth® – Make the Lighting Smart and More
Bluetooth technology, as a major connectivity method world widely, plays an important role of IoT, it’s well adopted by audio stream, smartphone/tablet, automotive and connected device. More than that, Bluetooth mesh makes Bluetooth support mesh network topology and lighting industry is a target area for it. Moreover, the new enhancement of latest Bluetooth core specification release make Bluetooth support Direction Finding, it also has big influence on bringing value-added applications based on smart lighting platform. In this speech, Bluetooth SIG will introduce all of these new features and what can they bring to lighting industry.

PANEL DISCUSSION
Blue Light - Green Light or Red Light? One Year On!
In late 2018, the Summit facilitated a panel of experts from diverse backgrounds. Instead of the standard industry spiels, this was the first time a lighting conference brought together scientists, councils, dark sky and astronomers and suppliers. Facilitated by Ironbark’s Alexi Lynch, the 2018 panel was to bring some nuance to the discussion surrounding “healthy” lighting. The panel openly discussed issues and controversies around LEDs, health and blue light; realistic goals for lighting temperature; legal implications for councils and DNSPs; and where do we go from here. With the latest from around the world, including the news from France where new lighting must be below 3000K, we re-introduce the panel with some new faces to see what’s changed in 12 months.

Exploring the Balance Between Innovation and Sustainability in Lighting
A big challenge faced when designing public lighting infrastructure is combining sustainable equipment with a desirable and innovative appearance. This panel discussion invites speakers from both ends of the field to come together to explore the balance that can be found between innovation and sustainability in outdoor, public, street and urban lighting projects.

Where Are We Now?
The first step in creating greatness is to establish that something is possible. What does Melbourne's streetscape currently look and feel like at night? We take a magnified view to understand its imperfections, perfections and opportunities. As we move into the future what is our our collective goal and what steps can we take now to maximise the potential of achieving this goal?
