Coffs Harbour City Council 100% renewable energy strategy

Posted On April 27, 2016

Coffs Harbour City Council has announced its decision to aim for 100% renewable energy for all council facilities by 2030.

The announcement comes as part of the Coffs Harbour Renewable Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan.

The targets set by the plan aim to reduce CO2 emissions by 50%, and aim for 100% renewable energy by 2030.

LED lighting is expected to play a significant role in plan, with the council becoming the first municipality to install energy-efficient street lighting across the entire local government area.

Coffs Harbour City Council also installed a landfill gas capture facility in 2009, the first of its kind on the coast.

Future plans include the installation of the largest public rooftop solar power array in the state on the top of Rigby House.

The installation is expected to save the council $30,000 per annum in electricity costs.

Previously the council installed solar panels at Castle St car park, the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden and Woolgoolga Lakeside Holiday Park.
