Improving Liveability Through Lighting – The 7th Australian Smart Lighting Summit
The Australian Smart Lighting Summit is returning to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 28th – 29th August 2019 for its seventh consecutive year.
Following the success of past summits, this year’s theme will focus on the shifting nature of the lighting industry. As the incorporation of new technology becomes a staple within cities, councils are working towards building a smart and connected lighting framework.
Annually attracting upwards of 200 attendees, this year’s event will play host to over 35 Australian and internationally based expert speakers who will delve into the trends and issues experienced throughout the lighting community. Presentations will touch on topics related to connected and smart lighting fixtures, implementation of lighting within councils, and the necessity and application of security measures and smart lighting initiatives.
Bringing an international perspective to the summit is Kerney R Marine, Assistant Director of the Bureau of Street Lighting in the City of Los Angeles. Marine will present on Lessons from Los Angeles, exploring the past, present and future Smart City of LA. He will analyse the realised benefits of HID to LED lamp conversions and the status of remote monitoring applications and its evolution within the city.
Executive Director of the Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand Adam Beck will examine the position of Smart Lighting as a Foundation for A Smart City. Exploring the connectivity between technology and human interaction, Beck will assess the necessity of intuitive technology within a growing community.
Peter Tsokas, Chief Executive Officer of the City of Unley, will present on Smart Lighting SA – Making Way for The Future, exploring the council’s decision to undertake detailed design and preparation in order to ease the future application of smart city projects.
Covering the Delivery of Smart Technology to the NT, Project Portfolio Manger at the City of Darwin, Maz Khosravi, will present on Smart Darwin’s initiative to work towards increasing the usage of sustainable and connected technology. Khosravi will touch on the project’s accomplishments, including the completion of 40% of Switching on Darwin, and the goal to install smart LED systems to reduce overall energy consumption within the city and improve the safety of the community.
