Solar lighting up Urangan Pier in $20,000 project

SOLAR-powered lights will be installed on Urangan Pier in a $20,000 project which will test the potential of the technology for other areas.

Fraser Coast Regional Council planning and infrastructure portfolio councillor Trevor McDonald said the move to replace the lighting came because of the high cost of maintaining the present system.

"If these new solar powered lights prove reliable and low maintenance we may continue to use them on the pier rather than install a new electrical system," Cr McDonald said.

The first lights are expected to be installed in the next two weeks.
