The City of Joondalup has started installing energy-saving LED lights that sit atop glass fibre reinforced poles, which reduces power consumption and maintenance costs.
The state-of-the-art lighting will soon be operating at the southern carpark of the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club – the first of their kind in the City.
The light poles are up to 75 per cent lighter than steel and can withstand high wind pressures that often affect coastal areas.
The poles are guaranteed to outlast wood, concrete, steel and aluminium and their non-corrosive properties ensure that the surface coat of each pole will require minimal maintenance, if any.
The high-impact strength of the finishing polyester gel coat makes the poles vandal resistant.
The LED lights can also be dimmed late at night or early morning, reducing energy consumption.
Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said it was another example of the City’s committment to providing innovative and value-for-money local infrastructure and services.
“Not only does this new lighting offer car park users extra security and safety, it meets the City’s requirements of using environmentally friendly technology that is both cost efficient and aesthetically pleasing,” Mayor Pickard said.
More fibre enforced poles and LED lighting is expected to be installed over the next few months.
